1. COPYRIGHT
======================================================================
GTPCPS is not placed in the Public Domain. The copyright is retained
by the author and the software is provided on licence:
You are free to use and make as many copies of these scripts as you
wish. You may also give it away to anyone who wants it, provided:
1. No fee is charged.
2. This archive is distributed intact.
3. You register the package with me.
======================================================================
2. REGISTRATION
======================================================================
Registration is simple. There is no fee involved at all. DO NOT send
any money! Registration simply involves sending a GT Netmail message
advising that you are using the scripts. That way I can let you know
about updates etc. Send netmail to GT NET/NODE 032/001 addressed to
Perry Alexander.
======================================================================
3. PURPOSE
======================================================================
(Or what do these things do anyway?)
GTPCPS is a set of GT Power 1403 scripts that allow the user to auto-
mate your usage of Telenet's PC Pursuit packet switching network.
The scripts allow you to:
1. Logon to PC Pursuit with either a 1200 or 2400 baud outdial
2. Dial any of the PC Pursuitable nodes at 1200 or 2400 baud
3. Dial several of the direct service providers
Use of the scripts requires a copy of any version of GT Power 1403 and
a subscription to the PC Pursuit service of Telenet.

4. USAGE
======================================================================
To use GTPCP,
A. Check your modem init string to be sure that you are using the full
verbose codes. The modems on the network return "verbose" result
codes. Because of this you must change the "Modem Init String" to
include a V1 instead of a V0, and you must also change the "Modem
Result Codes" to their verbal couterparts. This should not be too
difficult to do, once done it need not be redone.
One change to the config that would benefit PC Pursuit users is to
erase the Speaker-on and Speaker-off strings. These strings tend
to confuse the city modems on the network. After erasing these
speaker control strings, place the desired Mn command into your
Modem Init String, or just let it default to the switch settings
of your modem.
B. Edit your GT.KEY file to modify the key assignments for your PC
Pursuit password and ID directory so you will not have to enter
them each time you run the scripts.
To make the changes required for the GTPCP scripts to run:
A. Within GT press the ALT-M key to access the Macro window,
select menu option [F]orward to move to the "SHIFTED FUNCTION
KEYS" - then on this screen change 3 lines as follows:
Select [8] and type your PC Pursuit ID followed by a |
Ex. 8 PMD999999|
Select [9] and type your PC Pursuit Password and a |
Ex. 9 TSZ34VG11|
(Don't type the number in front of the input, they are just
there to show you what line you should be on)
Press [ESC] to save your changes
B. Or if you either don't use a gt.key file, or you just want to
see what I am talking about - copy the PCP-CODE.KEY into your GT
program directory and the from the [ALT M] Macro Menu, select
[E]xchange and then type PCPCODE.KEY when prompted for the file
name. You can just use it after you change my sample codes to
your own personal ones.

C. WARNING: GTPCP will not work unless the .KEY file active when
it is invoked contains SHIFT FN 8. PCPURSUITID| <-- With |
SHIFT FN 9. PCPPASSWORD| <-- With |
THIS IS A CHANGE FROM PRIOR VERSIONS. It makes it easier to
update to new scripts and to secure your PCP access. I
[E]xchange my GT.KEY file every time I log off so that the
next person who uses the machine does not have my macros. My
key file is PSA.KEY and GT.KEY is blanks. But you do your own
thing.
Also, upon exit the scripts will automatically return your
dialing directory to GT.DIR. If that is not you desired default
directory, you can change it by editing PCP-QUIT.SCR.
To install the scripts:
A. Copy the scripts ( *.scr ) into the directory (or drive) specified
in your GT profile for SCRIPTS (Use [ALT-I] from the main GT screen to
check your default).
B. IF YOU HAVE THE GT directories for each Telenet node, you will not
have to do anything further to use the scripts but if you do not
have a directory for each node, you will need to create one for
each
NOTE TO FLOPPY DRIVE USERS:
Due to the size of the directories, the GT or GTO program
diskettes can not hold the directories. Use a separate
diskette(s) and change your GT profile to indicate the drive
for the directories.
C. Add the local PC Pursuit telephone number to the phone directory
you usually use and input as the logon script at the directory
entry "Script" prompt:
PCP1200 if you are using-------------------------------------
a 1200 baud or less modem
OR
a 1200 baud TeleNet dialin line
PCP2400 if you are using-------------------------------------
a 2400 baud or more modem
AND
a 2400 baud TeleNet dialin line

D. Edit the directory entries for each board that you have already
been verified on to include 2400 baud if the city now supports
it and and you are now going to be accessing the board at that
baud rate.
E. Edit the directory entries for each board that you have already
been verified on to include your password. The directories that
I use with the scripts are normal GT directories and can be sorted
as desired. All the my entries are coded as to the area by putting
the area code as the first 3 characters of the board name:
201-The Exec BBS
201-Mary's Board
This allows you to remember what the area code is if you print out
your directory using GT-Util. Add new entries as you wish.
The usuage of GT Power scripts is fully explained in the GT
manual. Key commands used in GTPCP are:
Dialing Directory . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Press Alt-D
Return to Script from online . . . . . . . . . . Press Alt-X
Stop Redialing of City and return to Menu . . . . Press Ctl-K
You can use the hangup command to leave PC Pursuit but if you
do you must reset your directory to the default manually with
the "E" command from inside the directory.
Use of the QUIT from the Node Menu does this for you as well as
leaving the Telenet network properly rather than just dropping
carrier.
GTPCP also allows you to directly dial the PC Pursuit BBS "The
Net Exchange" run by Telenet without accessing area 201.
The BBS has multiple nodes directly accessable from the @ prompt.
Type NXCH from the Node Menu to access the board.

5. TROUBLE SHOOTING
======================================================================
Life with Telenet's PC Pursuit is not always easy. The network and the
outdial and indial modems are subject to change and to doing strange
things that can throw the GTPCP scripts off. I tried to provide for
some of the more common problems but I can not cover all that might
happen. If you run into a problem, try the following:
>> page 5 <<
GTPCPS: v4.4 by Perry Alexander

A. Using ALT-X to leave a node, the PCP Node Menu does not come back,
send a D| to the modem until you get a disconnect, then issue
several escapes, then use ALT-3 to run PCP-Node to get the menu.
B. The redialer returns strange codes, first try to redial the city,
then quit and log on again. You may have hit a bad outdial modem
or line.
C. The quit sequence seems to hang, try sending a series of D| until
you see DISCONNECTED, then send HANGUP. That should get you off.
D. You get a NOT OPERATING, check to see if you selected the right
baud rate for the node, if so let the script try a few more times;
if not use the CTL-K command to return to the Node Menu.
E. The menu does not return when leaving a direct service (ie Net
Exchange), hit several escapes to remove any nested scripts then
hit a D| to get the @ prompt, then use ALT-3 to reselect PCP-Node
to get back to the menu.

8. DISCLAIMER
======================================================================
Q: What kind of guarantee comes with this software?
A: EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAID FOR - ABSOLUTELY NONE!
I take no responsibility at all for what these scripts may do on any
computer other than my own. If you use it you do so at your own risk.
All that I am prepared to say about it is that they work for me (and
I can see no good reason why they should not also work fine
everywhere else also -- but ....)
By using this program you accept these conditions.
======================================================================
9. CREDITS
======================================================================
Developing these scripts was harder than it may seem. I could never
have done so with out borrowing from many sources - earlier scripts
for GT by John Huffman and Paul Meiners (the author of GT Power),
files on the NetExchange by TeleNet personnel, and finally friends
and friendly SysOps.
Particular thanks for helping with the lastest version of these
scripts go CAM DEBUCK, Sysop of Cam's Outhouse, PAUL MEINERS, Sysop
of The Programmer's Workshop and author of GT Power, RICH HACKNEY,
sysop of The Hideaway, and DENNIS IVY, sysop of Halls of Ivy.
Additional thanks to Stephen dePlater for the format used in my
new documentation. I directly copied the format that Stephen uses
with his excellent GT Power utilities.
======================================================================
9. ENJOY!
======================================================================
At least, I hope you do!
Please respond with any suggestions, questions or whatever so I can
update GTPCPS - THANKS!
